Dear ESHS Community:
It is such a pleasure to join the El Segundo High School community. I am honored to be selected to serve as your Principal, and I am thoughtful about the legacy of this great high school and the El Segundo community.
I can imagine that you will have many questions about me as I transition into this role--my background and experience as an educator and as an individual. I have been so fortunate to serve in public education for 22 years, as an English and History teacher, English Department Chair, mentor teacher, site administrator and district administrator. Along the way, I pursued a graduate degree in teaching English and a doctorate in Educational Leadership, with a passion for serving students with the best in global education programs and pathways. I confess, I still think of myself as a teacher, and it is through this teaching and learning lens that I approach education; I am a learner, intellectually curious and look forward to sharing the pursuit of the finest education with our school community. Stanford educator, Carol Dweck, may have said it best that “becoming is better than being,” and I have no doubt that "together we can" achieve the finest education for all students through our ongoing efforts.
More personally, I can share with you my happiness as the opportunity ESHS offers to work with our school community every day. As we face challenges, the simple act of collaborating with our students serves as a joyful reminder of how fortunate we are to work with wonderful young adults who will grow, learn and shape a better world.
I will close with a note of thanks to our Superintendent, Dr. Moore, our Board of Education, and the ESUSD staff for their warm welcome and support. From the moment I joined the ESUSD team, I have felt our core values in action, and I look forward to listening, learning and collaborating with our school community in the service of our students.
Have a wonderful summer, and I look forward to seeing you in August.
Jennifer Tedford, Ed.D.
