School Closure Update From Dr. Gooden

Dear Eagle Families,

With safety as our top priority, we understand the uncertainty and many questions that our families have regarding our plans to provide educational programs to our students during the school dismissal.  Please understand that ALL activities, rehearsals, athletic completions and practices are included in this dismissal. Students should not be on campus for any reason. Attendance Recovery and Saturday School are cancelled until further notice.

Effective Monday, March 16, 2020,  we will transition to online instructional programs.   This is a fluid situation, and our district will continue to consult with the Los Angeles County Office of Education and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to determine the best measures to ensure our students are safe.  We will communicate these updates with you.

At El Segundo High School, all students have access to PowerSchool Learning and Google Classroom.  These will be the primary modes of communication, instructional lesson delivery, and work submission used during this school dismissal.

On Monday, teachers will be posting their specific classroom plans via the online platform that is used respective to the class. Students will need to login to PowerSchool Unified to access each class page on a daily basis.  This is necessary to retrieve the materials, videos, and assignments that teachers have posted.

All teachers will be available via email during the hours of 8:00am - 2:30pm to answer any questions.  If necessary, students may request a phone conference with their teacher for further clarification that may not be possible through email.

We know this is a difficult time, and students have many questions.  Our counseling staff, career advisor, school psychologist and intervention specialist are also available via email and phone during this dismissal. Again, I must reiterate, that although adults are on campus, they will not be able to provide face-to-face assistance to students.

Thank you for your support and flexibility as we all transition to providing our instructional program virtually.  We appreciate your patience in this process. If families do not have internet available, please contact either Dr. Gooden or Dr. Fox, and alternative arrangements will be made to ensure access to instructional materials.
