Hello Eagle Community,
The El Segundo community, and El Segundo High School, are not immune from the problems of substance abuse and vaping that exist in society.
In an effort to educate students, parents, and the El Segundo community, ESHS is hosting a community presentation on substance abuse and the developing brain on Monday, May 22, at 5:30pm, in the ESHS library.
Leading the event will be Barbara Veit, molecular biologist and West Coast Director at Truth Pharm, who will be presenting on the following topics:
Why and how substances affect the brain
Who is at risk of addiction
Health issues of vapes, and how they pose a threat because of their perceived low harm
A discussion of the adolescent brain and its susceptibility to addiction
Overt and physical signs of vaping and substance abuse, and tools/strategies for teens/parents to navigate abuse challenges
